Volunteers Week is from April 22-26, 2024, and Lakes Regional Healthcare (LRH) is celebrating and extending gratitude to the invaluable individuals who selflessly dedicate their time and talents to support the organization’s patients, visitors, and staff.

Volunteers enhance the care LRH provides and foster a warm, welcoming environment for everyone who walks through the doors. From assisting in hospice care and hospital operations to offering critical Medicare guidance, LRH volunteers play diverse and essential roles that positively impact lives every day.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated volunteers who embody the spirit of compassion and service,” said LRH Vice President of Marketing and Retail Services Jennifer Gustafson. “Their commitment not only enriches our patients’ experiences but also strengthens the fabric of our community.”

The scope of the volunteers’ contributions is profound. Hospice volunteers, numbering 17 strong, offer vital support to patients and families during challenging times, providing companionship, running errands, and offering respite care that is both comforting and essential.

Meanwhile, approximately 50 hospital volunteers serve as friendly faces at our entrances and in the gift shop, ensuring every visitor feels welcome and cared for. Their efforts in customer service and patient assistance are integral to daily operations.

SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) volunteers are unsung heroes, providing critical guidance on Medicare options to help individuals navigate healthcare choices confidently.

Volunteering at Lakes Regional Healthcare offers a myriad of personal rewards beyond the obvious community impact. Volunteers find purpose in their service, forge lasting friendships, and gain profound satisfaction from supporting a cause they deeply believe in.

“This Volunteers Week, we invite anyone interested to consider joining our volunteer family,” encourages Gustafson. “Whether you have a few hours to spare weekly or want to lend a hand during special events, your contribution will make a meaningful difference.”
