We love receiving comments and notes from patients about the care they received here, especially when they mention a specific individual that made their experience extra special. When this happens, we make a point of telling the individual about the comment. However, we also present awards annually to those that are recognized by our patients and their peers – for going above and beyond in their work to meet our service excellence standards. The awards we present are the DAISY and ROSE awards.
DAISY Award for Nurses
The DAISY award was started by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33. He passed away from the autoimmune disease ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenia), hence DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. Although the name represents specific diseases, the DAISY award is given by many hospitals across the country to extraordinary nurses for compassionate contributions and service excellence.
ROSE Award for All Non-Nursing Staff
The ROSE award stands for Recognition of Service Excellence and recognizes all non-nursing staff, like the DAISY award recognizes nursing staff.
Recipients of both awards receive a sculpture, pin, gift bag, and cinnamon rolls to share with their department. They are also recognized at a ceremony during Hospital Week in May, including their family and those who nominated them.
Every nomination is a meaningful recognition of the team member who receives it from a grateful patient, family member, or co-worker. That’s why each person who is nominated for either award receives a copy of their nomination. It also emphasizes the impact they had on the person who wrote the nomination and the difference they made. They also receive a special note from hospital leadership.
Nominations Process
Nominations for both awards are based on Lakes Regional Healthcare’s “CARES” service excellence standards, which include communication, attitude, responsiveness, and engagement. Anyone can nominate someone – a patient, LRH employee, provider, volunteer, family member, and visitor. All nominations are blind and sent to an internal committee to select the recipients.
