CareCall

For many older adults in Dickinson County, a quiet house isn’t just peaceful. It can be isolating. The CareCall program is a free telephone reassurance program that connects homebound seniorsĀ  with trained volunteers for regular check-in calls. The idea is simple: once a week, a volunteer calls an enrolled participant just to talk, see how they’re doing, ask whether they have the food and household basics they need, and make sure they know someone cares.

Participants in CareCall must meet the following requirements:

  • Is 60+ years of age OR homebound/have limited independent function regardless of age
  • Lives in Dickinson County, Iowa
  • Lives alone or has limited/no nearby family or support who checks in regularly
  • Is homebound or has limited mobility/transportation
  • Is able to safely participate in a phone conversation (no barrier that would make calls distressing or unsafe)
  • Gives voluntary consent to be contacted (or authorized representative gives the consent)

Those interested in becoming a CareCall participant must begin by completing the form below. Referrals are also accepted from physicians, home health providers, and community partners. The number of participants accepted is based on meeting the requirements and the number of volunteers available to make phone calls.
