This year Lakes Regional Healthcare Foundation will hold their 11th annual fundraiser called the Grape Escape to celebrate the advancements in healthcare in the Iowa Great Lakes and to raise funds toward future projects. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the Scholarship Endowment Fund. The event will be held on Friday, February 10 at the Roof Garden Ballroom. The evening will begin with hors d’oeuvres and wine and bourbon tasting upon arrival followed by two courses and a dessert prepared by the Hi-Lo Supper Club and Catering, paired with select wines. There will be a silent auction during the social hour and a live auction during the entrees portion of the evening. Tickets are $150 each, $20 of which is tax deductible, and can be purchased by visiting https://grapeescape.ticket.qtego.net/tickets/list or by calling 712-336-8791. Those unable to attend the Grape Escape but interested in supporting Lakes Regional Healthcare Foundation can contact Foundation Executive Director Sonja Hamm at 712-336-8791 or sonja.hamm@lakeshealth.org.

This year’s Grape Escape will address the shortage of professionals in the healthcare industry by providing scholarships for people in northwest Iowa. According to Hamm, the United States is experiencing a shortage of healthcare professionals – physicians, nurses, and technologists – because a greater percentage of them are nearing retirement and fewer people are entering the healthcare industry as a career. “We are working to increase the supply of healthcare professionals in northwest Iowa by focusing on people who have grown up here, in anticipation that they will come back in time and provide care to patients at Lakes Regional Healthcare and directly benefit people in our service area,” said Hamm. “We want to help those interested in pursuing careers in healthcare by removing as many obstacles as possible. Our Scholarship Endowment Fund provides for annual scholarships for Dickinson County high school seniors, Dickinson County residents in an undergraduate program, LRH employees including employee student debt repayment for the job categories of Registered Nurse, Registered Respiratory Therapist, Medical Technician, and Paramedic. Our desire is to grow the fund to be able to support debt repayment and increase both the number of scholarships we can award and the dollar amounts of those scholarships.”

Hamm added, “The Grape Escape wouldn’t be possible without the support of sponsors. Please consider a sponsorship this year!”
