Lakes Regional Healthcare was recently rated as a five-star hospital for the fourth year in a row by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) web site. CMS’ Care Compare program reports on quality measures for more than 4,000 hospitals nationwide. Roughly 13 percent of hospitals in the country were rated five stars, and Lakes Regional Healthcare was the only hospital in the western half of Iowa, and one of five Avera-affiliated hospitals, to receive a five-star rating.
The overall star rating summarizes quality information on important topics in five categories: safety, readmissions, mortality, patient experience, and timely and effective care. The overall rating, between one and five stars, makes it easier for consumers to compare hospitals. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures.
“I am proud of what our team does each day for our patients, families, and communities. Their commitment to providing high quality, compassionate care to every patient at every encounter is demonstrated by how we earned the highest possible star rating,” said Jason Harrington, Lakes Regional Healthcare President and CEO. “It’s an honor to be recognized for the efforts our care teams strive for every day and even more impressive that we have maintained that high standard for the last four years in a row.”
