Lakes Regional Healthcare (LRH) is hosting a baby shower event at Lake Okoboji Resort & Conference Center (formerly Arrowwood Resort & Conference Center) on Saturday, April 27 from 9 am until 11 am for area women. It will be a free come-and-go event for hopeful, expectant, and new moms. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to learn about pregnancy, labor, and delivery from physicians, nurses, new moms, and more. Plus, they can learn about local resources available for new parents and children and even have a chance at winning a month’s worth of diapers.

The event will include two group question/answer sessions. The first will be held at 9:15 am and discuss pregnancy. Panel members will include an OB physician from Lakes Regional Family Medicine, OB nurse, and a Registered Dietitian. Questions such as how to know when it is the best time to get pregnant, at what point should fertility help be pursued, what are the costs to receive prenatal care and during the hospital stay, and how to prepare now to have a healthy pregnancy will all be answered at the event. Those at the event can ask the panel their questions directly or do it anonymously via text message to a panel facilitator.

The second session will be held at 10:00 am and will be real talk with new moms, OB nurses, and a pelvic health physical therapist. Questions such as what labor really felt like, what helped through labor, what baby items are must-haves, and more will be answered at the event. Again, those at the event can ask the panel their questions directly or anonymously.

While not attending the question/answer sessions, those in attendance will be able to enjoy delicious goodies such as cupcakes, punch, and more. They will also be able to enter a drawing for a month’s worth of free diapers (size 2). Local daycare providers, photographers, WIC, and more will also be available at the event.

“This is going to be a fun event, something girlfriends can enjoy doing together on a Saturday morning,” said LRH Vice President of Marketing and Retail Services Jennifer Gustafson. “Becoming a mom is exciting, but also a bit daunting, and we’re looking forward to helping the new generation of local moms connect with and learn from each other.”
