August 3, 2020 – Lakes Regional Healthcare has added a new member to their Rehabilitation Services team. Gabe Goehring, Doctor of Physical Therapy, recently joined the group.

Goehring received his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota. He graduated from the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota this spring. He describes his approach to providing care by being patient centered. “I try to make it a point to have my patients think of goals or activities they have given up to help direct our therapy sessions. I believe this helps patients buy in because everything is geared at getting them back to doing what they love.”

Goehring said he decided to be a physical therapist after watching and shadowing several other types of therapists, such as sports therapists and lymphedema specialists. “I truly believe every profession has a seat at the table when it comes to helping patients get better,” he said. “I enjoy having the freedom to assess multiple facets of the person’s abilities to determine their functional limitations, and then have the ability to treat those limitations. Being able to treat the whole variety of pathologies that we do helps keep me on my toes throughout the day.”

Originally from Okoboji, Iowa, he is excited about the opportunity to work at Lakes Regional Healthcare. “We have an excellent team of therapists here. We all know and provide the newest therapies and treatments, and it’s great to work in a progressive environment that offers the best patient care. Plus, the Okoboji area is a great community,” he said.
