5 gold stars in a row

Lakes Regional Healthcare was recently rated as a five-star hospital for the third year in a row by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) web site. CMS’ Care Compare program reports on quality measures for more than 4,000 hospitals nationwide. Roughly 13 percent of hospitals in the country were rated five stars, and Lakes Regional Healthcare was the only hospital in northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota, and one of six Avera-affiliated hospitals, to receive a five-star rating.

The overall star rating summarizes quality information on important topics in five categories: safety, readmissions, mortality, patient experience, and timely and effective care. The overall rating, between one and five stars, makes it easier for consumers to compare hospitals. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures.

“Healthcare is a team sport and I’m proud that every person at Lakes Regional Healthcare – our physicians, staff, volunteers, and our Board – has been part of making us the regional leader for the past several years,” said Jason Harrington, Lakes Regional Healthcare President and CEO.
